Any Mandolin Players?

I just got a mandolin on eBay and I’m a little concerned because the “seam” in the wood pieces in the back has separated a little. If it were a violin I’d say it’s fine to play as long as the player is careful but I’d recommend looking into getting it fixed. Anyone know if that’s what I should do for a mandolin, too?

Take it to a luthier.

Or send it back.

The seller doesn’t accept returns, but even if he did, I’m already too attached to it to send it back. I have an email in to the guy we bought my violin from almost 20 years ago. I wasn’t looking for him, he just came up when I did a search for luthiers in my area. I’m hoping it’s a sign.

Thanks for responding!

It won’t be a difficult fix and might not cost you much money if you don’t mind not refinishing the whole thing.

Good luck!

I was already planning to go have a professional show me how to set it up correctly. I snapped one of the strings trying to tune it, so I suspect something isn’t quite right. I’d rather have someone show me than get really frustrated with it. Thanks again!
